Northwest Student Allegedly Assaults Staff Member With Laptop

A staff member at Northwest High School was injured yesterday after a student allegedly struck him with a laptop, according to school administration.

At around noon, county police arrived at the Germantown school in response to a reported assault.

In an initial letter to staff and families, principal Scott E. Smith only mentioned that an incident had occurred.

“The incident did not impact student safety or disrupt the instructional program,” wrote Smith.

In a follow-up response, Smith confirmed that the school’s security team and police were investigating the alleged altercation.

The county fire department and an ambulance were also at the scene to provide medical assistance. The injured staff member was then taken to a hospital for treatment.

Smith thanked the staff members who quickly responded to the situation, ensuring that other students were safe. He also noted that any student who commits an act of violence will face “progressive discipline”, including potential expulsion.

Police are still determining whether to file criminal charges.
